Mussoorie is a Hill-station in district Dehradun in the state of Uttarakhand. It is roughly 35kms from Dehradun. Situated at an altitude of 2005m Mussoorie is the most glorious and the most visited Hill-station of Dehradun. Situated at the foothills of Garhwal Himalayas this Hill station is also known as the Queen of the Hills. The name Mussoorie came from a shrub called "Mansoor" which is available in large quantities in Mussoorie. A number of fancy bungalows, malls and gardens covers the landscape of the hill station.
Mussoorie was founded by Lt. Frederick Young of East India Company at 1825. He was so enchanted by the raw beauty that he decided to build a hunting lodge at Camel's Back road with FJ Shore, the Superintendent of Revenues at Doon. The Nehru Family were a frequent visitor to Mussoorie during 1920s and 1930s. Nehru's daughter Indira Gandhi also spent most her time at Mussoorie. During their visit, they also visited the nearby Dehradun.
Mussoorie, with its green hills and varied flora and fauna and the glittering views of the Shivalik Ranges and the Doon Valley attracts thousands of tourists from both India and abroad every year in Mussoorie. Other than its astounding beauty Mussoorie has also developed into an important centre of education and business. Mussoorie is also famous for Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of administration where IAS and IPS officers are trained.
Kempty falls is definitely the most famous tourist spot in Mussoorie. Kempty falls was discovered by a British officer more than 100 years ago. Kempty Falls is a beautiful location to take a dip in falling water from an altitude of 40 feet. Kempty falls is the most fascinating public spot at a distance of 15kms from Mussoorie.
Lal Tibba is the highest peak in Mussoorie, at an altitude of over 2,290 meters above sea level and gives mesmerizing and never seen before views of the mountains that house the holy shrines of Kedarnath and Badrinath.
This is a picnic spot near Mussoorie, Visitors like to bath at the bhattafall. There is also a children park with slopes, slides and swings for playing which makes this place beloved for both adults and children. Bhatta falls is one of the most visited spot in Mussoorie.
The name comes from the event of firing cannon from this place to tell what time is it to the people during the British establish a colony. Gun Hill is the Second highest point in Mussoorie.
If you are in Mussoorie you must visit Mall road. It is a pure shopper's delight with everything in the same location. Mall is the lifeline of Mussoorie. The Mall road is located at a distance of some 15 km from the Kempty Falls
